This bowl belongs to the Raw + Emerald series. The outside stays completely raw so the clay keeps its warm, natural feel. When you hold it, you can feel the surface exactly as it left the wheel. Inside, the emerald glaze gathers into a soft pool of colour. The crackle lines appear after firing and give the green a sense of depth, like something happening just below the surface.
The shape rises gently from a narrow foot and widens into an open curve. It feels balanced, steady, and light in the hand.
About the Making
I threw this bowl in one continuous movement, keeping the walls as even as possible so the form could open without losing its strength. After trimming, I burnished the outside to keep the clay smooth but still alive. Only the interior was glazed. The rest is the kiln: the heat, the tightening of the clay, and the way the emerald glaze settles into its crackle pattern.
Each piece in this series is slightly different. The clay decides small things, the tone on the rim, the way the crackle lines form. That’s part of why I keep the exterior raw. It lets the material show itself.
